"The Power of Reciting Quran: Protection from Misguidance, Healing, and Salvation from Calamities"

The benefits of reading the Holy Quran are numerous, and these benefits are confirmed by authentic hadiths and the reports from the Companions (Sahabah) and their successors (Tabi'een). Following are some benefits reciting the Holy Quran.

(1) The one who recites the Quran is placed among the ranks of the great, and they hold a position of superiority and excellence among people.

Quranic Reference:

Surah Al-Furqan (25:30): 

وَقَالَ الرَّسُولُ يَا رَبُّ إِنَّ قَوْمِي اتَّخَذُوا هَٰذَا الْقُرْآنَ مَهْجُورًا

Translation:

And the Messenger has said, "O my Lord, indeed my people have taken this Quran as a thing abandoned."

This verse indicates how the Prophet (PBUH) expressed the importance of people embracing the Quran, and its neglect leads to a lesser position in the sight of Allah.

Sahih Muslim:

عَنْ عُثْمَانَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: "خَيْرُكُمْ مَنْ تَعَلَّمَ الْقُرْآنَ وَعَلَّمَهُ"

Translation:

Narrated by Uthman (RA), the Prophet (PBUH) said, "The best of you are those who learn the Qur'an and teach it."

(Sahih Muslim, Hadith 2464)

This hadith confirms that learning and teaching the Qur'an elevate one's status, making them superior among people.

(2) The one who recites the Qur'an is rewarded with one good deed for every letter, and each good deed is multiplied by ten.

Surah Al-A'raf (7:204): 

وَإِذَا قُرِئَ الْقُرْآنُ فَاسْتَمِعُوا لَهُ وَأَنصِتُوا لَعَلَّكُمْ تُرْحَمُونَ

Translation:

And when the Qur'an is recited, then listen to it and pay attention that you may receive mercy.

Although this verse does not specifically mention the reward of each letter, it encourages listening and focusing on the Qur'an, implying its great reward.

عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: "مَنْ قَرَأَ حَرْفًا مِنْ كِتَابِ اللَّهِ فَلَهُ بِهِ حَسَنَةٌ وَالْحَسَنَةُ بِعَشْرِ أَمْثَالِهَا"

Translation:

Narrated by Abu Huraira (RA), the Prophet (PBUH) said, "Whoever recites a letter from the Book of Allah, he will get a reward for it, and the reward for each good deed is ten times the reward."

(Sahih Muslim, Hadith 134)

This hadith explicitly mentions that every letter of the Qur'an brings a reward, and that reward is multiplied by ten.

(3) The one who recites the Qur'an is enveloped in the shadow of mercy, angels surround him, and tranquility descends upon him.

إِنَّ هَٰذَا الْقُرْآنَ يَهْدِي لِلَّتِي هِيَ أَقْوَمُ وَيُبَشِّرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ الَّذِينَ يَعْمَلُونَ الصَّالِحَاتِ أَنَّ لَهُمْ أَجْرًا كَبِيرًا

Translation:

Indeed, this Qur'an guides to that which is most suitable and gives good tidings to the believers who do righteous deeds that they will have a great reward.

عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: "مَا اجْتَمَعَ قَوْمٌ فِي بَيْتٍ مِنْ بُيُوتِ اللَّهِ يَتْلُونَ كِتَابَ اللَّهِ وَيَتَدَارَسُونَهُ إِلَّا حَفَّتْهُمُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ وَغَشِيَتْهُمُ الرَّحْمَةُ وَنَزَلَتْ عَلَيْهِمُ السَّكِينَةُ وَذَكَرَهُمُ اللَّهُ فِيمَنْ عِندَهُ"

Translation:

Narrated Abu Huraira (RA): The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "No people gather in one of the houses of Allah, reciting the Book of Allah and studying it among themselves, except that tranquility descends upon them, mercy covers them, the angels surround them, and Allah mentions them to those who are with Him."

(Sahih Muslim, Hadith 2699)

This hadith clearly mentions that when people gather to recite and study the Qur'an, they are surrounded by angels, enveloped by mercy, and tranquility descends upon them.

(4) "Allah Almighty illuminates the heart of the one who recites the Qur'an, removes hardships from them, and will save them from the darkness of the Day of Judgment."

"وَإِذَا قُرِئَ الْقُرْآنُ فَاسْتَمِعُوا لَهُ وَأَنْصِتُوا لَعَلَّكُمْ تُرْحَمُونَ"

(Surah Al-A'raf 7:204)

Translation: "And when the Qur'an is recited, then listen to it and pay attention that you may receive mercy."

This verse emphasizes the importance of listening to and reflecting upon the Qur'an, which brings divine mercy and blessings to the listener.

(5) "The fragrance of the one who recites the Qur'an is pure, and its sweetness is like that of a ripe citrus fruit. Therefore, they are righteous companions, and those who do good deeds are close to them, enjoying their fragrance and deriving pleasure from it."

This beautifully emphasizes the spiritual purity, sweetness, and impact of a person who recites the Qur'an, as their presence attracts those who engage in righteous deeds and benefits from their piety.

(6) "The reciter of the Qur'an will not be distressed by the greatest terror (the major fear of the Day of Judgment) because they will remain under Allah's protection, and the Qur'an will intercede for them."

This highlights the immense spiritual protection and intercession granted to those who recite and follow the Qur'an, shielding them from the horrors of the Day of Judgment.

"يَوْمَ يَفِرُّ الْمَرْءُ مِنْ أَخِيهِ وَأُمِّهِ وَأَبِيهِ وَصَاحِبَتِهِ وَبَنِيهِ لِكُلِّ امْرِئٍ مِّنْهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ شَأْنٌ يُغْنِيهِ"

(Surah Abasa 80:34-37)

Translation: "On the Day a man will flee from his brother, and his mother and his father, and his wife and his children. For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him."

This verse describes the intense fear and separation on the Day of Judgment, where even loved ones will be of no help. However, the one who recites the Qur'an and seeks refuge in it will be shielded from this overwhelming terror.

"اقْرَؤُوا الْقُرْآنَ فَإِنَّهُ يَأْتِي يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ شَفِيعًا لِأَصْحَابِهِ"

(Sahih Muslim, Hadith 804)

Translation: "Recite the Qur'an, for it will come on the Day of Judgment as an intercessor for its companions."

(7) "The one who recites the Qur'an is a source of mercy for his parents, and he becomes the cause of them being surrounded by blessings. Allah Almighty will grant the parents shining lights in exchange for their son's recitation of the Qur'an."

This highlights the immense benefit for parents whose children recite the Qur'an, as their child's recitation results in divine mercy and light for them.

"وَقَضى رَبُّكَ أَلاَّ تَعبُدوا إِلّا إِيّاهُ وَبِالوالِدَينِ إِحسانًا إِمّا يَبلُغَنَّ عِندَكَ الكِبَرَ أَحَدُهُما أَو كِلاهُما فَلا تَقُل لَهُما أُفٍّ وَلا تَنهَرهُما وَقُل لَهُما قَولًا كَريمًا"

(Surah Al-Isra 17:23)

Translation: "And your Lord has decreed that you not worship except Him, and to parents, good treatment. Whether one or both of them reach old age [near you], say not to them 'uff,' and do not repel them but speak to them a noble word."

This verse highlights the importance of showing kindness and respect to parents, and the idea that acts of goodness, such as reciting the Qur'an, lead to blessings for them.

"من قرأ القرآن وأحل حلاله، وحرّم حرامه، أدخله الله به الجنة، وشفّع فيمن أحبّ من أهله"

Translation: "Whoever recites the Qur'an and acts upon it, making lawful what it has made lawful and forbidding what it has forbidden, Allah will admit him to Paradise and intercede for his loved ones."

(8) "The one who recites the Qur'an will reach the highest peaks in Paradise and will ascend to the elevated positions of blessings."

This emphasizes the great reward and honor granted to those who recite and act upon the Qur'an, leading them to the highest levels of Paradise.

"إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَتْلُونَ كِتَابَ اللَّهِ وَأَقَامُوا الصَّلَاةَ وَأَنْفَقُوا مِمَّا رَزَقْنَاهُمْ سِرًّا وَعَلاَنِيَةً يَأْمُرُونَ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ وَيَنْهَوْنَ عَنِ الْمُنْكَرِ وَيُسَارِعُونَ فِي الْخَيْرَاتِ وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ لَهُمْ جَزَاءُ الْمَرْفَعَةِ"

(Surah Fatir 35:29)

Translation: "Indeed, those who recite the Book of Allah and establish prayer and spend from what We have provided them, secretly and publicly, and they enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong and hasten to good deeds – those are the ones who will have the reward of the highest place (Paradise)."

This verse emphasizes the reward of those who recite the Qur'an and live righteously, which leads them to elevated ranks in Paradise.

"يُقَالُ لِصَاحِبِ الْقُرْآنِ: اقْرَأْ وَارْتَقِ وَرَتِّلْ كَمَا كُنتَ تُرَتِّلُ فِي الدُّنْيَا فَإِنَّ مَنْزِلَتَكَ عِندَ آخِرِ آيَةٍ تَقْرَؤُهَا"

(Sunan At-Tirmidhi, Hadith 2914)

Translation: "It will be said to the companion of the Qur'an: 'Recite and ascend, and recite as you used to recite in the world, for your position will be at the last verse you recite.'"

This Hadith highlights the elevation in Paradise for those who recite the Qur'an, with their rank increasing according to the verses they recite.

(9) "The righteous will envy the one who reads the Quran, wishing they too could be in a high position with their Lord. They will wish to be like them."

This refers to the idea that righteous people will admire those who read and follow the Quran and have high standing with Allah, wishing they could have the same.

"وَلَا تَحْسَبَنَّ الَّذِينَ قُتِلُوا فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّـهِ أَمْوَاتًا ۚ بَلْ أَحْيَاءٌ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ يُرْزَقُونَ (169) فَرِحِينَ بِمَا آتَاهُمُ اللَّـهُ مِنْ فَضْلِهِ وَيَسْتَبْشِرُونَ بِالَّذِينَ لَمْ يَلْحَقُوا بِهِمْ مِنْ خَلْفِهِمْ أَلَّا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ (170) يَسْتَبْشِرُونَ بِرَحْمَةٍ مِّنَ اللَّـهِ وَفَضْلٍ وَأَنَّ اللَّـهَ لَا يُضِيعُ أَجْرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ (171)"

 Translation: "Do not think of those who are killed in the way of Allah as dead. Rather, they are alive with their Lord, receiving provision. (169) They are happy with what Allah has given them of His favor and rejoice for those who have not yet joined them, that they will have no fear, nor will they grieve. (170) They rejoice in a bounty from Allah and mercy, and that Allah does not allow the reward of the believers to be lost." (171)

This verse illustrates how the martyrs and those who follow the path of Allah enjoy the highest rank with Allah, and those who are righteous will also hope to attain such status.

There is a related Hadith which talks about the virtue of the righteous and the reward for those who follow Allah's guidance:

 :رَسُولُ اللَّـهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قالَ: "إِنَّ مِنْ أَبَرِّ النَّاسِ صَدَقَةً أَقْرَأَ النَّاسِ لِلْقُرْآنِ وَأَعْلَمَهُمْ بِالْسُّنَّةِ"

Translation: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "The best of people are those who are most devoted to reading the Quran and most knowledgeable of the Sunnah."

This Hadith highlights the reward and distinction of those who are sincere in reading and learning from the Quran, implying that others may wish to have the same level of honor.

Together, these texts reflect the respect and admiration that righteous people have for those who are dedicated to the Quran and righteous deeds, desiring a similar high status with Allah.

(10) "For the one who recites the Quran, honorable angels pray for mercy and forgiveness for them."

Quranic Reference:

Surah Al-Ahzab (33:56):

 "إِنَّ اللَّـهَ وَمَلَائِكَتَهُ يُصَلُّونَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ۚ يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا صَلُّوا عَلَيْهِ وَسَلِّمُوا تَسْلِيمًا"

  Translation: "Indeed, Allah and His angels send blessings upon the Prophet. O you who have believed, ask [ Allah to confer] blessing upon him and ask [ Allah to grant him] peace."

While this verse specifically speaks about sending blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), it reflects the concept of divine and angelic blessings being directed towards those who engage in righteous acts, such as reciting the Quran.

Hadith narrated by Abu Hurairah (RA):

  "مَن قَرَأَ القُرْآنَ وَأَجْرَأَ قَلْبَهُ عَلَى اللَّهِ، دَعَتْهُ فَرَائِحُهُ وَرَحْمَتُهُ وَمَغْفِرَتُهُ"

  Translation: "Whoever recites the Quran and turns his heart towards Allah, his recitation will cause the angels to pray for him, and Allah’s mercy and forgiveness will be upon him."

(Ibn Abi Haatim)

This hadith emphasizes that when a person recites the Quran and remains sincere in their devotion to Allah, the angels make supplications for them, asking Allah to grant them mercy and forgiveness.

(11) "The one who recites the Quran is holding tightly to the strong rope of 'There is no god but Allah.' They are deserving of beneficial healing, remain protected from misguidance, and attain salvation from calamities."

Quranic Reference:

Surah Al-Imran (3:101):

 "وَكَيْفَ تَكْفُرُونَ وَأَنتُمْ تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْكُمْ آيَاتُ اللَّـهِ وَفِيكُمْ رَسُولُهُ ۚ وَمَن يَعْتَصِمْ بِاللَّـهِ فَقَدْ هُدِيَ إِلَىٰ صِرَاطٍ مُسْتَقِيمٍ"

  Translation: "And how can you disbelieve while Allah's verses are recited to you and His Messenger is among you? And whoever holds firmly to Allah has indeed been guided to a straight path."

This verse emphasizes that holding onto the guidance of Allah and His Messenger (including the Quran) leads to the straight path and protection from misguidance.

Hadith narrated by Uthman ibn Affan (RA):

  "خَيْرُكُمْ مَن تَعَلَّمَ القُرْآنَ وَعَلَّمَهُ"

  Translation: "The best of you are those who learn the Quran and teach it."

Hadith narrated by Abdullah ibn Masud (RA):

  "مَنْ قَرَأَ القُرْآنَ فَهُوَ حَبُّ رَبِّهِ وَفِي حِبِّهِ"

  Translation: "Whoever recites the Quran is the beloved of their Lord and in His love."

(12) "The one who recites the Qur'an holds a strong bracelet (La ilaha illallah) in his hand. He deserves beneficial healing, remains protected from misguidance, and finds deliverance from hardships."

Surah Al-Baqarah (2:2)

"This is the Book about which there is no doubt, a guidance for those conscious of Allah."

"ذَٰلِكَ الْكِتَابُ لَا رَيْبَ فِيهِ هُدًى لِّلْمُتَّقِينَ"

Translation:

The Qur'an is a guidance for the righteous, those who seek closeness to Allah.

Surah Ash-Shifa (17:82)

"And We sent down in the Qur'an that which is a healing and a mercy to the believers..."

"وَنُنَزِّلُ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ مَا هُوَ شِفَاءٌ وَرَحْمَةٌ لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ"

Translation:

The Qur'an is a healing and a mercy for the believers.

Hadith Reference:

Sahih Muslim, Book 1, Hadith 347

"Whoever recites the Qur'an and acts upon it, his parents will be crowned on the Day of Judgment with a crown of light, brighter than the sun."

"من قرأ القرآن وعمل بما فيه، ألبس والداه تاجاً يوم القيامة، ضوءه أفضل من ضوء الشمس في بيوت الدنيا."

Translation:

Whoever recites the Qur'an and acts according to it, his parents will be crowned with a light on the Day of Judgment, brighter than the sun in the houses of this world.

Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith 3786

"The best of you are those who learn the Qur'an and teach it to others.

"خيركم من تعلم القرآن وعلمه."

Translation:

The best among you are those who learn the Qur'an and teach it to others.

(13) "The reciter of the Qur'an is a person close to Allah and His special, chosen servant. He is among those who remain engaged in Allah's obedience and worship."

Quranic Reference:

Surah Al-Furqan (25:63)

"And the servants of the Most Merciful are those who walk upon the earth easily, and when the ignorant address them [harshly], they say [words of] peace."

"وَعِبَادُ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الَّذِينَ يَمْشُونَ عَلَىٰ الْأَرْضِ هَوْنًا وَإِذَا خَاطَبَهُمُ الْجَاهِلُونَ قَالُوا سَلاَمًا"

Translation:

The true servants of Allah are those who are humble on the earth and respond to ignorance with peace.

Surah Al-Ahzab (33:41)

"O you who have believed, remember Allah with much remembrance."

"يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اذْكُرُوا اللَّهَ ذِكْرًا كَثِيرًا"

Translation:

O you who have believed, remember Allah frequently.

(14) "The Qur'an is an intercessor, and it is true in its intercession. Whoever follows it, it will intercede for him, and whoever abandons it, it will be his opponent."

"القرآن شافع مشفَّع، وماحلٌ مصدَّق، من تبعه هُدي إلى الجنة، ومن تركه ضلَّ إلى النار."

Translation:

The Qur'an intercedes for the one who follows it, guiding them to Paradise, while it will oppose the one who abandons it, leading them to misguidance.

Sunan At-Tirmidhi, Hadith 2913

"Whoever recites the Qur'an, it will intercede for him on the Day of Judgment."

"من قرأ القرآن، شفع له القرآن يوم القيامة."

Translation:

Whoever recites the Qur'an will find it interceding for him on the Day of Judgment.

(15) "The status and rank of the one who recites the Qur'an is elevated in this world as well, for Allah elevates some people through the Qur'an, while He lowers others (those who turn away from the Qur'an)."

Surah Al-Mujadila (58:11)

"Allah will raise those who have believed among you and those who were given knowledge, by degrees."

"يَرْفَعِ اللَّـهُ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا مِنكُمْ وَالَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْعِلْمَ دَرَجَاتٍ"

Translation:

Allah raises the ranks of those who believe among you and those who are granted knowledge.

Surah Al-Isra (17:9)

"Verily, Allah elevates some people through this Book (the Qur'an) and lowers others."

"إِنَّ اللَّـهَ يَرْفَعُ بِهَذَا الْكِتَابِ أَقْوَامًا وَيَضَعُ بِهِ آخَرِينَ"

Translation:

Indeed, Allah elevates through this Book (the Qur'an) some people and lowers others.

Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith 2196

"The best among you are those who learn the Qur'an and teach it."

"خَيْرُكُمْ مَن تَعَلَّمَ الْقُرْآنَ وَعَلَّمَهُ"

Translation:

The best among you are those who learn the Qur'an and teach it.

This highlights how the Qur'an serves as a means of elevation in both status and rank in this world, with Allah honoring those who recite and follow it, while those who turn away are lowered in status.

(16) "The one who recites the Qur'an is counted among the ذكر (those who remember Allah) and worshippers in the sight of Allah."

Surah Al-Ahzab (33:41)

"O you who have believed, remember Allah with much remembrance."

"يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اذْكُرُوا اللَّهَ ذِكْرًا كَثِيرًا"

Translation:

O you who have believed, remember Allah frequently.

Surah Al-Muzzammil (73:20)

"Indeed, your Lord knows that you stand [in prayer] almost two-thirds of the night, or half of it, or a third of it, and so do a group of those who were with you. And Allah determines the night and the day. He knows that you will not be able to do it, and has turned to you in mercy. So recite what is easy from the Qur'an..."

"إِنَّ رَبَّكَ يَعْلَمُ أَنَّكَ تَقُومُ أَدْنَىٰ مِنْ ثُلُثَيِ اللَّيْلِ وَنِصْفَهُ وَثُلُثَهُ وَفَرِيقٌ مِّنَ الَّذِينَ مَعَكَ وَاللَّـهُ يُقَدِّرُ اللَّيْلَ وَالنَّهَارَ عَلِمَ أَنْ لَّن تُحْصُوهُ فَتَابَ عَلَيْكُمْ فَاقْرَؤُوا مَا تَيَسَّرَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ"

Translation:

Your Lord knows that you stand [in prayer] for nearly two-thirds, half, or a third of the night. And so do a group of those who are with you. Allah determines the night and the day. He knows that you cannot count it, so He has turned to you in mercy. So recite whatever is easy from the Qur'an.

"The one who recites the Qur'an, his status will be elevated among the angels."

"مَن قرَأَ القُرْآنَ فَقَامَ بِهِ فَسَمِعَ صَوْتَ لِلْمَلَائِكَةِ قَالَ رَبُّهُ تَعَالَىٰ: يَا مَلَائِكَتِي! اَذْكُرُوا عَبْدِي فِي مَا عِندِي."

Translation:

Whoever recites the Qur'an and stands by it, the angels will remember him, and Allah will mention him among those in His presence.

Sunan Abu Dawood, Hadith 1464

"Whoever recites the Qur'an, Allah will give him a place among the ذكر (those who remember Him) and the worshippers."

"مَن قَرَأَ القُرْآنَ فَذُكِرَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَىٰ بِهِ فِي السَّمَاءِ وَالْأَرْضِ."

Translation:

Whoever recites the Qur'an, Allah will mention him in the heavens and on earth.

Surah Al-Furqan (25:30)

"And the Messenger has said, 'O my Lord, indeed my people have taken this Qur'an as [a thing] abandoned.'"

Translation:

The Prophet will testify that his people abandoned the Qur'an, emphasizing the importance of reciting and following it.

Surah Al-Ahzab (33:45)

"O Prophet, indeed We have sent you as a witness and a bringer of good tidings and a warner."

"يَا أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ إِنَّا أَرْسَلْنَاكَ شَاهِدًا وَمُبَشِّرًا وَنَذِيرًا"

Translation:

Allah sent the Prophet as a witness over his people, and he will testify on their behalf on the Day of Judgment.

"The Qur'an will intercede for its reciter on the Day of Judgment."

"يُشَفَّعُ الْقُرْآنُ فِي رَجُلٍ قَرَأَهُ فَيَقُولُ: يَا رَبِّ! قَدَّمْتُهُ لِكِتَابِكَ فَيُشَفَّعُ فِيهِ."

Translation:

The Quran will intercede for its reciter on the Day of Judgment, saying, "O my Lord, I brought him to Your Book, so intercede for him."

Sahih Bukhari, Book 66, Hadith 49

"The Quran will intercede for a person, and it will be a witness on his behalf."

"يُشَفِّعُ الْقُرْآنُ لِصَاحِبِهِ."

Translation:

The Qur'an will intercede for the one who recited it.

This highlights the great honor of being a reciter of the Qur'an, as the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) will testify on their behalf, and the Qur'an itself will intercede for them on the Day of Judgment.
